Apple reveals iPad 2

iPad 2

Apple officially unveiled the iPad 2 today. The new tablet is scheduled to come out on March 11.

Along with a slimming design, the iPad 2 comes packed with plenty of upgrades. Among them are a new dual-core CPU that is twice as fast as the original, and graphics performance up to nine times better than the current device.

Some aspects remain unchanged though, including the screen resolution (1024×768), the battery life (approximately 10 hours), and the price. The 16GB WiFi-only model will cost $499 with increasing prices for more upgraded versions.

What does this mean for gamers? With the original iPad’s release, Apple promised that gaming would be a primary focus for the device. The company delivered, offering all kinds of games on the new platform. It seems likely that Apple will continue that trend with the iPad 2.

My first experience playing a video game blew me away. The fact that Super Metroid was that game certainly helped. So I like to think Samus put me on the path to video games. Well, I guess my parents buying the SNES had a little something to do with it. Ever since then my passion for video games has grown. When I found that I could put words together into a coherent sentence, videogame journalism was a natural interest. Now I spend a large majority of my time either playing video games or writing about them, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
