PS3 closing the sales gap, only 3 to 1 now

FIGHT!Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know that Nintendo’s Wii has been wiping the floor with the competition, as far as sales go. This is a trend that spans all regions, and the latest numbers from Japan show that although the little white console is still outselling the PS3 and Xbox 360 by huge margins, Sony’s system has done much better over the summer.

As reported by Bloomberg, the Playstation 3 sold 81,541 units in the month of August, compared to the Wii’s 245,653. Lifetime, the numbers stand at 1.1 million and 3.4 million units, respectively. As for the Xbox 360 – 11,288 in August; 442,290 lifetime.

The 3 to 1 ratio between Wii and PS3 sales last month, although a seemingly massive difference, is a great improvement for Sony. In July that ratio was 4 to 1, and in May and June it was 6 to 1.
