The Old Republic special editions announced, pre-orders start today

The Old Republic

Electronic Arts and BioWare have finally unveiled the details of two special editions for Star Wars: The Old Republic and also announced that pre-orders have now begun, proving that the game is finally nearing release.

The Digital Deluxe edition of the game will feature five in-game items for players: a flare gun, training droid, HoloDancer, HoloCam, and STAP speeder. The Collector’s Edition will include all of these in addition to an exclusive in-game mouse droid, collector’s edition store that will offer special items only available for purchasers of this edition, exclusive statue of Darth Malgus, collectable metal case for game discs, copy of The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural as annotated by Satele Shan, Old Republic galaxy map, custom security authorization key, Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD, and collector’s edition box.

Each copy of the game will include "30 Days Game Time" and all pre-orders will have early access to The Old Republic in addition to a color stone that will change the color of your lightsaber blade and blaster bolts.

"We are targeting Star Wars: The Old Republic to be one of the biggest launches of holiday 2011," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare. "Our teams at BioWare and EA, along with our partners at LucasArts, are laser-focused on creating a high quality game, but just as importantly, they are resolute in delivering a high quality service.

"We are taking all of the necessary steps to make sure The Old Republic has a thriving community built on a stable online foundation from day one, including limiting supply at launch to ensure that players easily transition into the servers. So whether you’re waiting to join the Empire or the Republic, pre-order now to ensure you can enter the galaxy at launch!"

Prices have also finally been detailed for each version of the game. Standard Edition will run players $59.99, the Digital Deluxe $79.99, and the Collector’s Edition a whopping $149.99.

Quantities for the Collector’s Edition are limited and have already sold out on EA’s Origin store. Anyone looking to lock up a copy may want to head to their nearest retailer as soon as possible.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is set for release sometime during the holiday 2011 season exclusively for the PC.
