Having sold over 1 million copies since its release in February, the serial killer drama Heavy Rain has reportedly joined the long list of games with movie deals. A deal for the film rights to the game is close to being finalized.
According to an article by Deadline New York, Quantric Dream hosted an auction for the game’s film rights that have production company Unique Features with the winning bid. Unique Features is headed by executives Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who have produced Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Nightmare on Elm Street series.
The two had won the auction by putting up their own money in the bid. The two had a first look deal with Warner Bros., but liked the game’s film potential so much that they used their own money before waiting for approval.
